Erika and Jeff

My name is Erika Montero. I am originally from Wichita and currently a senior at Kansas State University in Manhattan. My fiance is from Wichita as well and graduated from KSU in May of 2005. He got a great job in Dallas. So, I don't get to see him to often but, we talk everyday!

We met in high school. Jeff was and is the only viola playing jock I have ever known. He played varsity football his junior and senior year. I played violin in the orchestra as well. We didn't talk much until his senior year. We should have gone to prom together but, Jeff was too shy to ask. He told me I was pretty before I ever started to like him, and after he graduated I sent him an email and we made plans for our first date!

Jeff and I have been together now for over four years! I have been a little impatient waiting on an engagement, because we have talked about marriage since my sophomore year in college. Well I thought the time had finally come after Jeff had graduated from KSU and we were going on a trip to Breckenridge, CO over Labor Day weekend for his family reunion. We met in Dallas on Friday night and then got up real early (4am) to get to the airport. Well Jeff hands me a piece of paper. It was our online tickets to Broadway's Beauty and the Beast in NEW YORK CITY! I was very excited and couldn't wait to get to New York. We went out to dinner that night in the Big Apple and then Jeff said he had another surprise. We take a taxi to the Empire State Building. When we get to the top we wander around among the other tourists and look out at the lit up skyline of NYC. As I am smiling for a picture his friend (who came along and conspired with him) is about to take a picture, he   instead turns on the video camera and Jeff turns to me and starts his line, where I start to blank out as he gets down on one knee and proposes! I was in total shock from my excitement and the beauty of the ring. The clapping and whistling from the on looking tourists made me feel light headed. After a big hug and kiss we took a carriage ride through Central park. We are planning on getting married in Wichita September 30, 2007!
