A Proposal Story

Eric and I met in high school while running cross country for Maize High School. He was a junior and I was a sophomore and at State Cross Country that year, our relationship began. Now that we're in college, we both run cross country and track at Pittsburg State University.

On a Wednesday when we had a day off from practicing with the team, Eric talked me into going to the Wilderness Park where we run with the team sometimes. We took our bikes, but decided to run a couple miles instead. The whole time we were just talking like normal. He didn't seem nervous so I expected nothing. We ran a mile towards the back of the park and we came up on something in the middle of the path. I noticed a huge heart with "Marry Me" spelled out in rocks. I looked around wondering who the elaborate presentation was for. As I looked over at Eric, I saw a big smile on his face and knew the heart was for me.

Eric unpinned a ring from his shorts, got down on one knee and said, "We met running and so I wanted to propose running." He then said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and asked if I would be his wife.

Of course I said yes.

We then walked back to the car and he explained how he came up with the idea and everything he went through to construct the giant heart. He had told me the story of how he talked with my dad, how long it took to get the ring and how long he had been planning the proposal. I was very impressed with all the hard work!

After about 6 years of dating, it was a wonderful day for both of us. Unfortunatly, from the construction of the heart, Eric got posison ivy on his legs, arms and face. So, he gave me a ring and he got poison ivy from the deal.
